Broody Cookie
Broody Cookie (see video below) has been scaring the other chickens out of the egg hutch so the other chickens are laying everywhere around our yard (like Coco above). Being broody is when a chicken is trying to hatch an egg. Usually it will be a little protective of their egg and make a warning screech or even chase other chickens out if they get too close. But if the chicken does not have a rooster it is impossible to hatch an egg and Cookie does not have any roosters to help her but she does not know that so it is a problem. To stop a chicken from being broody you have to wait for at least twenty one days because that is how many days it takes to hatch an egg.
Oh man, Snowy is being broody too! Hoping it doesn’t last 21 days!
ReplyDeleteBecause she is the only chicken maybe give her an egg too hatch.
DeleteHow many more eggs do you think there are hiding in the yard? Time for an egg hunt!
ReplyDeleteProbably a lot!
DeleteI wonder if the other chickens each have their favorite spots in the yard now? Do they wait to lay until they get to go out in the yard?
ReplyDeleteThey can hold it in for a while so maybe?
DeleteI just read this post about how to break a broody hen, maybe we should try some of these techniques? https://www.gardenbetty.com/how-to-break-a-broody-hen/
